HEB was engaged by the Town of Houlton, Maine to design a 10-foot
wide, 186-foot long glulaminate timber arch with suspended deck
bridge. The deck is hung from the arches with 1.25" diameter
steel rods. The bridge provides handicap accessibility and can
carry small vehicles such as snowmobiles and maintenance equipment.
It connects a trail system along the river to
Houlton’s historic Market Square District. HEB also designed the
approaches and parking area.
Construction cost was $752,000.
The bridge won a 2005 National Recognition Award in the
ACEC Excellence in Engineering Awards
Program. |
