Using their
Qualification Based Selection (QBS) process, the State of Maine
selected HEB to provide engineering and construction administration
services for improvements intended to bring facilities in the
250-site campground into compliance with the provisions of the Safe
Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA). HEB worked closely with the State’s design committee to
complete a base map and a facilities evaluation report that
identified a variety of deficiencies at the campground. HEB was then
retained to provide engineering design and construction
administration services for a series of improvements aimed at
overcoming those deficiencies.
The Campground’s water supply was improved by construction of a new
will, pump house, pump controls and transmission pipeline. Modern,
universally accessible amenities buildings were designed and
constructed using low maintenance, water saving fixtures. Each
building includes restrooms, showers and a dishwashing/graywater
disposal station. Groundwater monitoring wells were installed and a
groundwater model was created to study the affect the campground’s
subsurface sewage disposal system has on water quality in Sebago
Lake. The decreased sewage discharge resulting from the use of
modern low-flow plumbing fixtures will prolong the useful life of
the existing leachbeds and help safeguard the Lake’s water quality. |
