HEB was engaged by the Town of Tamworth to design a new solid waste transfer station. The
towns landfill had reached its capacity and the decision was made not to purse a new
landfill site within the town. HEB prepared plans, specifications, bid documents and
construction contract documents, which included a large retaining wall structure, worker
and equipment shelter, an 800-foot long entrance road and gate, trash compactor and power
supply. The plan was carefully conceived to minimize impact on the natural resources
existing within the site. Regulatory approvals required for the project included NHDES
Wetlands and Site Specific Alteration of Terrain Permits, a Limited Public Solid Waste
Transfer Station/Recycling Facility Permit and NHDOT Highway Entrance Permit. To assure
that there would be space for future expansion, HEB prepared a preliminary design for a
recycling center and designed the site to accommodate its footprint for future
construction. HEB also provided construction contract administration for the project.
The new facility allows the town to improve its recycling practices, resulting in cost
avoidance due to reduced waste stream volume and revenue generation through sale of
recycled commodities. |
